Fall Light at the Charles River

The light shimmers, reflects, dances
on the river this autumn afternoon.
Water meanders slowly around the bend,
rushes, falls over the dam.
Crisp fall light paints a deep blue sky;
leaves green to yellow-golds reflect in the water.
The sun warms all beings at the river this late afternoon.
Ducks swim, bob, slide down the falls;
Blue heron suns herself.
bright sunlight shines on river, trees, and path
casts deep shadows too,
as afternoon moves toward dusk.
Drinking in the sights and sounds and colors and waterfowl and
rushing, changing river,
I am intoxicated by the fall light.
